THE A/W15 MAKEUP PALETTE what you need to know now

About Us page component.

Get ready for a season of extremes in makeup: the most impactful emerging looks sit at two opposing ends of the spectrum, and they are entirely achievable for everyone, not just the girls on the catwalks.

Both looks hinge on lip-colour, either crystal clear or a vivid slash of dark - that iconic vamp shade which can be interpreted through the deepest nuances of plum and purple. So if you love a red lip - and lots of us do for festive parties - prepare to experiment with a whole new lip-look. And not just where colour goes: the focus is on shine – you're looking for great glosses right now, not classic lipstick.

While gloss isn't necessarily the finish of choice for many, it is what makes the darker version of this lip look do-able for everyone. Anyway, lip gloss has been reinvented to behave like lipstick inasmuch as many now have the same tenacity, yet their finish (no longer necessarily 'wet look'), consistency and lower pigment fill make the darker colours more wearable because the impact isn't so strong and can be tempered. So if you want to try an intense lip colour, the way to do it is with transparent gloss.

Where 'clear' goes the interpretation is wide as there is a spectrum of soft gloss nuances which keep things fashionably low key but with a hint of helpful colour. My recommendation of lip gloss shades below take you from true no-colour-clear to no-holds-barred dark, and suit all ages and skin tones.

So which designers are responsible for shaking up the winter palette for us? Check out the AW15 catwalk reports for designers like Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Roberto Cavalli, Prada, Rodarte, Fendi, Maxmara and Alexander MacQueen. These were the designers that sent the girls down their catwalks with the lip dressing formula we're about to discover, complemented with a perfectly pale complexion, mascara-dressed lashes, and the occasional lick of eyeliner or pencil and pillar box red nail.

Prep for the perfect seasonal look like this:

1. Prime for colour with T LeClerc Anti-Ageing Fluid Foundation, a creamy but lightweight base.
2. Line lids with liquid liner or a soft trace of dark pencil like New CID's i-Flick Double Ended Liner
3. Load up lashes with layers of mascara – try Face Stockholm Lash Booster - Black
4. Prep lips with a transparent conditioning balm like Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm For Lips – you can wear this alone as your no-colour lip look too.
5. Apply pale or dark gloss over the top, blotting with a tissue after the first application layer. Face Stockholm #37 Lip Gloss, Wild About Beauty Hannah Nutrilips Balm and New CID Coconut Ice i-Gloss Light Up Gloss With Mirror were all made for this look.
6. Go for a bright red nail colour – Kure Bazaar Stiletto Nail Lacquer is the obvious choice!
