Just back from holiday? If so you'll no doubt be feeling relaxed, healthy and perhaps a little slimmer - all thanks to your tan .. There is a reason so many of us like sunkissed skin: while it's always advisable to tan as safely as possible with a high factor sunscreen, the upside of a tan is its positive psychological effects and the fact that skin - and your body - just look better. However, exposure to the sun, sea and even chlorinated pool water can leave your skin feeling dry and as the tan fades that causes skin to peel and look tight and even a little more lined. Any kind of sun exposure is traumatic to skin, even when 'armed' with a sun tan, and a thickened epidermis. So your main aim should be to keep your skin well moisturised, and as well as regular moisturiser, concentrated goodness from mask applications can really help to restore suppleness ..

 

 

5 WAYS TO HYDRATE YOUR SKIN

Layer on a mask or cream: some face creams work as well as standard masks at hydrating skin. The key ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which restores its moisture levels and helps retain moisture. Apply an extra thick layer of face cream at night or treat your skin to a mask. Here's the simple recipe I use to feed and mend my skin:

1. Beat an egg in a cup, add a dash of oil (ordinary cooking oil with do); soak a wad of cotton wool in the cup then apply the mixture to your face. Leave it for 10 minutes until it feels like it's beginning to dry, then rinse off with warm water and a flannel.

2. Drink plenty of water. While it won't actually hydrate your skin from within it will help to flush impurities from your system and give skin a plumper, hydrated appearance.

3. Wear a moisturising foundation. You don't need to apply it all over your face, just to key areas like forehead, nose and chin.

4. Eat food rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as oily fish like tuna, salmon and anchovies. Avocado and walnuts are also rich in omega-3.

5. Take a flaxseed oil supplement. Also rich in omega-3, flax is an excellent nourisher.
